Chemical properties:
A colorless, fluid and moderately volatile flammable liquid with a special odor of ethers. It can form azeotropes with water, isopropanol, acetone, acetonitrile and ethanol.
Uses 1. Diisopropyl ether is a good solvent for animal, plant and mineral oils and fats, and can be used to extract nicotine from tobacco; it is also a good solvent for paraffin and resins. In industry, diisopropyl ether and other solvents are often mixed and applied to the dewaxing process of paraffin-based oil products. As a solvent, it is also used in pharmaceuticals, smokeless gunpowder, coatings and paint cleaning. Diisopropyl ether has a high octane number and antifreeze properties and can be used as a gasoline admixture. This product is easy to form peroxides and explode when shaken. Benzylaminophenol is often added as a stabilizer. The anesthetic effect of diisopropyl ether is lighter than that of ether, but the duration of anesthesia is longer.
2. Used as a solvent, used for the concentration and recovery of dilute solutions of acetic acid or butyric acid, and used as an extraction solvent for sodium thiocyanate in the wet acrylic fiber process.
