Colorless and odorless viscous liquid. Sweet taste. Has strong hygroscopicity. Can absorb hydrogen sulfide, hydrogen cyanide, and sulfur dioxide. It is miscible with water and ethanol. One part of this product is soluble in 11 parts of ethyl acetate and about 500 parts of ether, but insoluble in benzene, carbon disulfide, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, petroleum ether, and oils. Easy to be dehydrated, resulting in the formation of diglycerin and polyglycerol upon dehydration. Oxidation generates glyoxal and glyceric acid, etc. Solidified at O ℃, forming oblique crystals with flashing light. At a temperature of around 150 ℃, polymerization occurs. Cannot be compatible with anhydrous acetic anhydride, potassium permanganate, strong acids, corrosive agents, fatty amines, isocyanates, and oxidants.
Gas chromatography stationary phase. Measure boron chelating agent. Used as a solvent, lubricant, formulation of cosmetics, and in the pharmaceutical industry.
