Hydriodic acid

CAS no. 10035-10-6

Details

This product is an aqueous solution of hydrogen bromide, which appears colorless or light yellow. Has a stimulating odor similar to hydrochloric acid. There is a slight smoking phenomenon. d20 1. 38; n~01. 438。 Exposure to air or sunlight can gradually darken the color due to bromine release. Hydrobromic acid has strong reducibility, strong acidity, and emits a slight smoke. It can be oxidized by oxygen and other oxidants in the air to elemental bromine, react with methoxy groups to form bromomethane, react with bases to form bromides, and react with amines to form hydrobromates. Easy to dissolve in organic solvents such as chlorobenzene and diethoxymethane, and can be miscible with water, alcohol, or acetic acid. Has strong corrosiveness. Immediately ignite when encountering H foaming agent. Encountering cyanide can produce highly toxic hydrogen cyanide gas. Can undergo violent reactions with alkali metals. Cannot be compatible with fatty amines, alkanolamines, vinyl oxides, aromatic amines, amino compounds, ammonia, ammonium hydroxide, bases, calcium oxide, epichlorohydrin, fluorine, isocyanates, fuming sulfuric acid, organic anhydrides, sulfuric acid, sodium tetraborohydride, strong oxidants, vinyl acetate, and water. Corrupts the vast majority of metals, forming highly flammable hydrogen gas. Except for metals such as platinum, gold, and tantalum, it corrodes all other metals and generates metal bromides.
