CAS no. 123-51-3

Details

Colorless and transparent liquid. There is a special unpleasant odor. Can be miscible with ethanol, ether, benzene, chloroform, petroleum ether, glacial acetic acid, and oils. Slightly soluble in water (14 ℃, 2g/100mL). Its vapor forms an explosive mixture with air, which can ignite and explode when exposed to open flames or high heat energy. Can react strongly with oxidants. If exposed to high heat, there is a risk of cracking and explosion due to increased pressure inside the container.

Used as an extractant for complex extraction of iron, cobalt, copper salts, and diphenylcarbazide. Used for the separation of lithium chloride in alkali metal chlorides.
