Colorless or white crystalline powder. Melting point 166 ℃, relative density 1 489, boiling point 290-295 ℃/3.5mmHg, specific rotation [AlDo]+23+ 24.. Easy to dissolve in hot water, 5.5mL boiling water can dissolve 1g of D-mannitol, soluble in ethanol, pyridine, and aniline, without hygroscopicity. Its sweetness is equivalent to 70% of sucrose, and mannitol absorbs a lot of heat when dissolved in water, providing a cool taste when consumed. It is relatively stable in sterile solutions and is not easily oxidized by oxygen in the air.
Sweetener, nutritional supplement, quality improver, anti sticking agent, etc. With low calorie and low sweetness, it can be used as a special food for diabetes and obesity patients instead of sugar, and it is also an additive for chewing gum and alcohol awaking drugs.
