Pentaerythritol

CAS no. 115-77-5

Details

White powdery crystal. Density: 1.395g/cm3. Melting point 261-262 ℃. Boiling point (4kPa) 276 ℃. Refractive index 1.548. Ignition point<370 ℃. Vaporization heat<92kj/mol, sublimation heat 13L skj/mol. Easy to be esterified by general organic acids and does not react with dilute caustic soda solution when boiled together. At 15 ℃, lg dissolves in 18rnL of water. Dissolve in ethanol, glycerol, ethylene glycol, and formamide. Insoluble in acetone, benzene, carbon tetrachloride, ether, petroleum ether, etc.
Commonly used in the coating industry, it is a raw material for alkyd coatings, which can improve the hardness, gloss, and durability of coating films. It is also used as a raw material for modified rosin alcohol required for varnish, color paint, and printing ink, and can be used to produce flame retardant coatings, drying oils, and aviation lubricants. Pentaerythritol tetranitrate, made from pentaerythritol as raw material, is a highly explosive explosive. Pentaerythritol fatty acid esters can be used as plasticizers and stabilizers for polyvinyl chloride resins. In addition, it can also be used in the manufacturing of pharmaceuticals, surfactants, adhesives, pesticides, and lubricants.
